Ideally, you should be moisturizing your skin twice a day.

In the morning, you need to use a moisturizer that has an SPF of at least 15. Using a sunscreen EVERY SINGLE DAY is the best thing you can do for your skin! You'll prevent a lot of premature aging if you do this.

At night, after cleansing your skin, you should apply a night cream. This is especially important if you have dry skin. Your night cream should be a little thicker than what you would use during the day. You don't have to spend a fortune - just find a cream that works well for you and doesn't make you breakout, if that's a problem for you (it is for me!)

Your skin doesn't really need time to "breathe", although if you use makeup during the day, it's really important to clean that stuff off - never go to bed with makeup on your face! Retinol is touted as one of the main components needed for any good anti aging cream.
