help redecorating living room?

that's the basic layout
we ahve creme carpets but thinking about getting wood
a gray brick fireplace
and wood paneling on the wall that's obviously going to have to go
what are any ideas of the room
(exp. a love seat on wall 2) or something like that

What are the dimensions of this room? You have a room with many openings, and that can be very challenging to arrange. You also do not mention if you'll be having a TV--having both a TV and a fireplace can create the challenge of having two competing focal points. So...
1. Consider, if the room allows, arranging furniture within the open space--not against walls. This allows you to define space without walls.
2. If you are having a TV, can it be hung over the fireplace, to allow you to arrange the furniture around a single focal point?
3. Do you like the gray brick of the fireplace? If so, consider getting an area rug that contains shades of gray to tie in the color. If not, consider painting the brick.
